In this chapter, we are introduced to Hiroshi's boss, who has just returned from a trip to the southern island. Hiroshi tells us that his boss is an "xl" , which means that he's between the ages of 20 and 35 . He's also wearing a jacket that Hiroshi bought for him . The jacket is open and Hiroshi notices that it's very fashionable on the island. He tells Hiroshi to put the jacket on top of his swim wear so that he can see what's going on around him. He also tells him to remember that this vacation is a "business vaca-tion trip" and that he needs to get back to his normal life. He asks Hiroshi what other shops he saw in the magazines while Hiroshi was on his trip, and he learns that they were giving away free samples of native foods. He says that the island is still practicing safe sex, but that there's a lot of progress being made. He notes that it must be really hard for Hiroshi not to be able to use a condom because of his small size. He wonders if his boss has gotten the wrong idea about how big he should be, and she points out that she's been selling them for 10 years now. She says that this is the first time in her life that anyone has ever turned to her for help.
