It's been a month since the last time we saw each other, and now that we're back in the present tense, we find ourselves in the middle of a conversation between Tachibana and Akiyoshi. The narrator tells us that it's really hard to write a love story when you're constantly thinking about the other person you love. He says that if you've been in love with someone for a long time, you can't really write about love because you'll get so excited about the person that you love that you lose track of what's important to you. He also says that it can be hard to get excited about love when you don't even know who that person is. He tells us, however, that he's just been feeling bad about everything, and that's why he feels so bad about his relationship with Akayoshi. He's also worried about how he'll be able to write about his love story in the future, since he doesn't know if he can ever fall in love again. He suggests that maybe she should try to get into a relationship with someone else, since she's already fallen in love. The two of them agree that falling in love is the best way to go about it.
