The narrator begins this chapter by lamenting that he has lost his sense of sight and senses of smell as a result of the alcohol he has consumed. He wonders if the alcohol is affecting him so much that he is losing his mind. He asks the narrator to tell him how he feels about the alcohol, and the narrator tells him that he can feel the alcohol in his eyes. The narrator wonders if he will go crazy from the alcohol. He tells the narrator that his mind is drifting away from him, and that he will not be able to sleep tonight because of it. He says that he lost consciousness half way through the drink, and they will have to go on a train every so often to get back to their senses.
