The witch has signed a contract with Sean. She wants Sean to be her constant companion, protect her, and study the history of magic. She even wants him to study the laws of the realm. The history of witches, she tells him, goes back to the beginning of time, when witches were symbols of prosperity, power, and even noble families. As time went by, those families were fighting each other, for titles, and succession. From that point forward, witches became nothing but a legend . Sean asks why he can't close the door to the house when he's changing clothes. He's mad that she doesn't share his magic with him. He throws a pebble into the air, and it circles around the earth, heading back to his house at a "terrifying speed" . Suddenly, his heart beats so fast that he feels like he is on a "roller coaster" , and he needs his wand to light the house.
