The witch is exhausted, and she tells Arthur that she picked all the vegetables and filled the baskets with them. She tells him that his hair is "too mushy" and that he should have given it a try. The witch tells him to stay for dinner, but Arthur says that the rat is still around, and the witch says that she will kill him with her bare hands one day. The rat's ears pop out of his hat, and Arthur thinks that he has been killed by the witch. He tells the rat to go back inside, and he says that he will kill the rat with his bare hands once he gets rid of the rat. He says that if he kills the rat, he will have the power to kill the witch herself. He also says that Arthur kicked the rat down on purpose, and that's why he kicked him down. Arthur asks the witch to try some of the soup, but she says that it's too cold for her to try it
