In this short scene, we meet a thirty-year-old bachelor named Pat, who has been living in New York City for the past 30 years. He tells us that he is not allowed in his mother's house because he is a man, but that he will go back on his knees if he cannot decide what he wants to do with his life. He says that his family was against him and his wife, and that if they do not agree with him, it is his business. When he gets to the top of the stairs, he asks to be taken to the third floor, where he will be able to get back his money that he gave away. When the elevator arrives, Pat asks to speak to him. He wants to know how long he has known the boy, and how he plans to get married. He asks if his family knows, and when Pat says that it is not, he laughs at him and says that he was just trying to piss him off.
