The narrator tells the story of a thirty-year-old man named "Tanhualin Road" . He is a bachelor who has lived in the neighborhood for the past 30 years. He has no idea what he is doing, but he has come to check on his master. He asks the monkey to lend him some clothes and an umbrella, but the monkey says he is not passing through the area. The monkey tells the narrator that he has met many people in the area, but none of them have come to see him. The first time he met the monkey was in a bar, where he had been asked to meet the blind partner of another woman. The second time he asked to see her, she had been his secretary, and the third time he had asked her to invite him to a party. The fourth time, he found out that his master had been working on his project, and he wanted to see if he could meet the monkey. The narrator says he will go get the monkey an umbrella and clothes.
