The narrator tells the story of a thirty-year-old man who has just met his "elder brother" for the first time in his life. The elder brother is a bachelor who has never done anything unusual in his entire life. He feels a "sneaky excitement" whenever he sees the elder brother, who is obviously afraid of being discovered for who he really is. The narrator wants to give him a hug, but he doesn't know where he is.
