He also tells him that if he were a woman, he would be happy to be open about what is wrong with her. He says that if she were a man, she would probably be open enough to admit her love to him. He admits that he drank too much the night before, but says that what he said yesterday was nonsense. He will let her off the hook for drinking too much because she is 50 years old.
