In this chapter, we learn that Fu ran was the one who saved Yu's life back in the beginning of the novel. Now, he's the new knight in shining armor. He's also the guy who took Yu to dinner that night as a thank you for his help in saving her life. Yu is all, "what the heck is this for?" , and Fu ran's like, "I didn't do anything for you, but I'm so glad you asked me out to dinner as a thanks" . Yu says, "it's not like I deserve to be a foot-sitter just like you" , but Fu ran doesn't seem to realize that Yu is still in love with him. He just wants to thank Yu for saving his life, but he'll never be able to do that again because of his past. Yu tells us that he and fu ran have been together for 12 years now, and that Yu and her mother are still together.
