In this chapter, we are introduced to a young man who has just graduated from high school. He has just returned from a trip to China, where he met his future wife, who is also a student at the same school. The two of them are in a hotel room together, and the young man tells his wife that his husband has been unfaithful to her. She is horrified, but the man assures her that her husband is already married, and that he is not having an affair. He tells her that love is like a gamble, that some people win a lot, while others lose a lot. The young man then tells the wife that he will not let her husband and his lover get away with such a thing. He also tells her not to worry, because the pain of losing doesn't come from the fact that she won or lost, but from a bet that she is sincere. He then tells her to remember that she used to love him eight years ago, when he released his new album, capricorn. The narrator then tells us that the love of winning or losing does not matter anymore, because now that you have lost, the pain is from the bet that you are sincere. In fact, the narrator tells us, the only thing that matters in love is the sincerity of the person who wins or loses. In other words, if you lose, the loss is not really a loss, but rather a loss from a love bet. In this case, it is the love bet that makes the person win.
