The narrator tells us that he's had an affair with a "free lancer" , a guy who earns money by giving away his possessions to prostitutes. He's not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing, but he does know that his mom has been meddling in his life ever since. Apparently, she's been trying to get money out of him for her "lover" . The narrator doesn't know what to make of this, but it's pretty clear that he wants to prove his mom wrong. He decides to go to a night show, which is kind of like going to a movie, except you can't really watch it on a big screen. So, he buys a bunch of snacks and drinks, and then goes to the show. He tells us about his mom's recent visit, and how she wants to borrow money from him to pay for her lover's expenses. He says that his dad isn't a good enough person to understand such things, and that his mother is cheating on him. He wants to know what's going on, but his mom won't tell him. So the narrator leaves,
