The chapter opens with the narrator looking around the school field, but he can't find his old enemy. He's looking for his old teacher, who's back on the other side of the fence. The narrator tries to find out what's going on with the other students, but they're too busy talking about sports. They're talking about how cool their class's performance was, and how awesome their teacher's kindness was. The class rep wants to change the subject, but the class rep doesn't want to listen to him. They argue about whether or not the weather's nice, and the narrator wants to watch the competitions. He wants to know if the wind is okay for him, and if he's tired, and what happened to his friend, chao, and his underling, ling-ao. They talk about how their class chose their group uniform, which reflects their loyalty to their country and party, and about how beautiful their uniforms are. They also talk about the fact that their class is the most beautiful class in the whole world, and that they have the most handsome boys and girls in the world.
