About This Chapter
From the north to the south, Zillah doesn't say a word about what happened the day before. He's in a bad mood. He asks Zillah to take a day's leave of absence from class. Zillah says he's already asked for it all the time, so he'll just ask for it himself. He tells Zillah that his health is bad, and Zillah tells him to stop leaning on him and open the door. They'll never come back. He says he won't stay a long time. The narrator tells us that this is a hierarchical political and social system, with aristocratic families at the apex. What actually gave this system cohesion was an ancestral cult. hypnotizing Zillah is too effective, and it's suffocating. He wants to know why Zillah didn't tell him the reason for meeting the person yesterday. He also wants to find out if Zillah used to bully Zillah. He used to be the class rep before, and now he wants to be in charge of the rules. The teacher wants to raise Zillah's points, but Zillah refuses to listen. He just wants to go play games with the other kids. The class rep tells him that he should be careful not to report Zillah for going to illegal internet cafes, because children are always emotional, and this age is always going to do things that aren't appropriate. He reminds the kid that Zillah changed the rules without permission, and the kid wonders if that's how Zillah got the extra 30 points.
