In this short scene, we are introduced to a number of characters who are introduced in the course of the novel. The first is a young woman named Chayka, who is introduced as a "flirtatious" fidget-puppet. The second is a girl named Masha, who introduces herself as "beautiful." The third is a woman named Shmoop, who describes himself as "rich." The fourth is a man named Falada, who tells the young woman that she is beautiful and that she should not worry about her appearance. The young woman, however, is not fooled. She tells Falada that he is beautiful, and that he should kiss her. Falada tries to kiss her, but she stops him, saying that she wants to wait for the time when she will be able to kiss him. She then asks Falada to follow her lead, and he does so.
