The narrator is worried about his sister's relationship with her boss. She's worried that he's going to cheat on her with another woman, and she's also worried that she won't be able to keep up with his advances. She tells him to be more roundabout and not to use his advances as an excuse to break up his relationship with his sister. The narrator tells him that he has a right to protect his sister, and that he doesn't want his sister to have to suffer through her marriage. He's just trying to protect her from a man who's too much of a flashy guy for her. He says that he can support his sister and her brother, and he'll be happy to help them out. He tells the narrator that he and his sister don't really have parents, so he has to protect him from being sad. He adds that he hopes that his sister will be happy with her marriage, too, because they've suffered so much together. He also says that his brother has gone to bed, and the narrator is left alone with him.
