In this short scene, we learn that Mingjia is in the middle of a conversation with her son-in-law, who is visiting her at her mother's house. She is worried that her son has done something wrong, but she does not want to say anything. She tells him that she is going to surgery and that she will come visit him again when she is home. When she is gone, she tells him, he and his son will come to visit her again. He tells her that they have just had lunch together and that they know each other from childhood. When he heard that her mother was sick, he thought he would come visit her. He asks her why she is even in the hospital, and she says that she knows that her family has a lot of reach, but doesn't think she can just walk over her. She says that if he likes her, then she will give up her position as a maid and give it over to him. She then says that the world has "truly gone downhill" and that people are now pride-splayed on their foreheads. She asks if she is allowed to hit her for being a "slut" and for having sex with her husband. She adds that she has no idea what she is getting when she sells her body to her husband for money. She compares herself to a prostitute and tells him to shut up and not to blame others for judging her when she gave a reason to do so
