In this short scene, Shmoop explains to his mom why he's keeping the baby. He's worried that his grandfather, who's 80 years old, will be able to use the baby as leverage against his father, who is currently running for governor of Zhejiang province. He also warns his mom that if the baby is a girl, she can do whatever she wants with the child, even if it means going against her family's wishes . Shmee tells his mom to wait for the baby to grow up and then she can make her own decisions. She's just happy that she's settled down in Zhejiang province, he tells her. He tells her to go shopping with him instead of going to the grocery store alone. He wants her to take him to the store with her so he can buy her some ice cream. She says she'll give him the ice cream and he'll go home with her.
