The chapter opens with a soliloquy by Suxin. He tells the reader that he has killed the "big boss" of the "flying eagle gang" because he was ordered to do so by his father. Suxin asks his father where he will be going. The adoptive father replies that he will go to meet the gang leader. He asks Suxin if he can go to the punishment hall to receive his punishment
