The chapter opens with a flying eagle gang thumping. Suxin asks if his father wants to rebel against the government. He says that he thinks he is a "man of ideas" and that he wants to teach his son how to fight. He tells Suxin that he has investigated the matter and found that Suxin is not from the city of changning. He wants to send someone to check on him. He then tells Su Xin that he will hire a teacher to teach him how to beat the eagle gang. Su Xin tells him that it is the first time he has seen anyone do a runner. He asks Su Xin to record his merit later, and Su Xin says that the imperial court does not like his background. He offers Su Xin another gift: if he needs it, he will send any prisoner who pleads guilty to the door of the city within three days
