After graduating from college, William decides to go into fashion design. He's bummed that his family won't let him do what he wants, since they don't think he's good enough to be a fashion designer. He tells his friend, Arnold, that the designer isn't very confident, but that if she's "properly guided and cultivated" , she'll be a "new star" . He also tells Arnold that he misses his sister, Raina, who's been away for a while. He says he misses her so much that his dad didn't allow him to go to school because he wanted to marry Raina so he wouldn't have to grow up. Arnold tells him not to worry, because Raina is much older than him, and if he dates her, he'll make her look older than she really is.
