In this chapter, we are introduced to the president of a large, well-respected company. He is the son of the company's first president, who was killed during the Revolution. The company is known for its high standards, and the president is proud of his son's accomplishments. He tells his son that he will have him as vice president in three days if he can't pass the entrance exam. The vice president will have to work for the company for three months, during which time the company will evaluate his abilities.
