About This Chapter
The next morning, the narrator sits on a sofa in his office. He wonders if all the unnatural things he saw on the previous day are the same things that he'll have to deal with in the future. He wants to know if he can figure out what happened to ichiro and what he can do to prevent it from happening again. The narrator asks the mayor to bring in fresh coffee for him and his secretary. The mayor says that he bought his umbrella at a corner store before the interview, but the narrator thinks that the umbrella belongs to someone who's been there before. He asks if there's anything on the umbrella, and the mayor says he doesn't know. He also says that the rain didn't stop raining when they arrived at the office, so the narrator assumes that ichiro was killed by someone who was after him. He then asks if the mayor has any proof that the sofa is the same thing that happened on the day of ichiro's murder. He says he has to send a message to his sister to find out.
