About This Chapter
This chapter opens with a conversation between a young woman and a police inspector. The young woman, who is called "ah shu," explains that she has been married for a year and that her husband and she have different opinions on certain issues. She tells the police inspector that she can have a child in a second if she wants. The police inspector, however, does not understand the young woman's point of view and asks her to edit out some of the domestic violence scenes in the novel. He tells her that in the modern world, love is wealth and that flighty people will be deducted from their income until they fall into debt. He also tells the woman that she is free to go anywhere she wants and that he is merely a police officer who keeps an eye on her. He asks her if she regrets spending her holiday with him and she replies that she does not and that she would not like to take over the shop. She apologizes for the ending of her favorite novel, "A thousand loves," and says that she did not like the ending because she was tired of the battles between the main characters.
