In this chapter, we learn that the grocery inspector, named liang, is getting married to a girl named shu. We learn that liang and shu are in love, and that they are planning to get married the next day. The narrator wonders how shu managed to catch the attention of the dumb inspector, and wonders why liang had to wait until the wedding for his rescue mission.
