This chapter opens with Cai'an's niece, Fang, telling her uncle that she has been robbed by her family. She tells him that her family was kind enough to visit them, but now they want to take her things. He tells her that her father has sold all of his land and collected a large sum of silver, and that he owes her a gambling debt. She begs him to forgive her uncle and give him the money and her hair. He says that he will not gamble it away, and promises to change.
