In the courtyard of the house where the monk is staying, Little Em'ly asks the priest if he's willing to help her. The priest says that he won't charge her anything, but that he'll help her if she needs it. Little Em-ly wants to know why the priest is there, and the priest tells her that she's trying to avoid something. He also tells her to stop looking for her, because they can't see each other anymore. He's done his divination, and he has one more to do. He tells the young monk to write a word on a piece of paper, and if the word doesn't mean what he thinks it means, he'd refuse to take the money. The young monk says that the word honor means wealth and honor brings glory, and that the young man will be well known in the future. He adds that the priest's prediction wasn't accurate, because he was supposed to die young, but the young lad has a premonition of death at age eighteen, so he has to guard against it. The monk tells the little girl that she can come out and ask the priest for help now, because the priest has already gone. The little girl says that if she wants to be old fashioned, she has to dress up first. The great granduncle comes in and says that this is the priest, who is helping his aunt get rid of her. He invites her to have tea with him, and she agrees.
