The chapter opens with a flashback to the beginning of the story, when Hiroyuki and his men are still fighting against the invading army of Meison. Hiroyuki tells his men that he is going to stitch together the various forces of the Japanese Empire into a single cohesive unit. He tells them that he has invented a device that will take their thoughts and turn them into a machine that will do whatever it wants with them.
