This chapter opens with a soliloquy in which Edmund explains that he is the one who is responsible for everything that has happened to Celia. He says that Celia is trapped in "dark magic" and that he has ordered Edmund to kill her. Edmund says that he hasn't seen him for three months and that Celia's strength has grown. He tells Edmund that he can't associate with anyone who has killed his wife. Edmund promises that he will make Celia his daughter once they get her back to the normal way of life.
