The chapter opens with a brief description of the situation in which the two women are now living. The women are in the middle of a shower, and the water in the bathtub is running low. The men are trying to pump the water out of the bathtub, but the pressure is too high, and they are unable to do so. They decide to go to bed, but not before asking the doctor to come and check on them.
