The narrator asks the other students if they really know each other, and they answer that they do, but that they don't really know one another. The narrator then asks the students if there is any friendship between them, and the students answer that there is, but only because the girl is crazy when someone is close to her, and she doesn't have anyone to talk to when she's close to someone. He then asks if the girl has ever had a friend, and when the students respond that there isn't, the narrator says that he's never seen the girl have a friend. He goes on to say that the girl rejected him the last time he tried to help her, even before he touched her. He's shocked that she would reject him like that, and he can't understand why she would want to be so close to a human being.
