In the meantime, sol is moping around, moping about why the master hates getting his rooms cleaned. He doesn't even know where the ledger is, and he's not even sure if the minister is there yet. He's just moping and moping. He asks the minister if he knows what's bothering him, and the minister tells him that he misses his daughter, but he can't forgive her. The minister says that he'll be angry and resentful if he sees her, so sol decides to go find the ledger and get out of the room. He tells the minister to hurry and pick up the ledger, because he knows the master is going to get into trouble if he messes it up. He says he came to get a message from the minister, and that he heard the minister wasn't doing well, so he came all the way there to deliver it. He warns the minister that if he tells him anything useless, the minister will break his legs so he won't walk again. He suggests that the minister use opium to treat his wounds, but the minister says it's better to use it for a short while, and then use it to forget his troubles.
