The doctor tells the Queen that he has called for a lowly woman for a "mere perfumist" . He tells her that there has been "a lot of rumors" about her relationship with the girl. The Queen tells the doctor that she is the King of the country and that he is far from it. The doctor says that he was concerned something "unpleasant may happen" and that the woman is a "candidate for the perfumery." The Queen says that she has been spying on her. She says that even if she were her grandmother, she would still be the King because she is far away from the country. The King says that the same way "that not all lives /are worth the same," a noble person shouldn't associate with someone "from lowly birth."
