The chapter opens with a flashback to a time before vampires were able to control the blood of the great men. This time, however, they are unable to do so because of the fall of the vampire king, who was responsible for the downfall of the entire vampire race. The chapter ends with a discussion of the idea of going to the wine vat and stealing the wine.
