About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a conversation between the protagonist and the protagonist's friend, the birdgirl. The birdgirl tells the protagonist that the bird girl is a nobody and that he should knock her down by surprising her with his birthday present. The protagonist tells her that he has never been into clothes and that she does not need to speak French. He asks her if she would like to spend her birthday shopping with him. She tells him that she would rather spend it with someone else and that since she has been near him, she has laughs and smiles. He tells her to go pick something else and she says that she is not on vacation and that it is an after-school uniform date. He says that he is waiting for someone to come along and make up with her. He goes on to say that the only person who would try to hit him is a "peculiar little weirdo" who would rescue him from him. He thanks him for rescuing him from the health committee and says he should thank him because he has already left. He then asks if he can stop by the office of the nurse to talk to her. The nurse says she is on duty and he asks if she is doing okay. She says she was doing okay and he says he has narrowed his search down to two people. She asks him why he is out in such light clothes and he replies that they are left over from his father's place. She then asks him if he would like her to celebrate his birthday with him since she is a romantic. He replies that he would if she asked him out for his birthday. She replies that if she liked him, he should say it straight. He laughs and says that the truth is that she was asked out for her birthday.
