Nemo tries to explain that he has been away from work for a while, but Mariane is not having it. She asks him to bring her brother's wallet so that she can pay him back for the money he has given her. Nemo tells her that his brother has allowed him to stay at the seashore for a long time, and that he would like to repay him in kind. He asks her to bring the wallet to her brother, and she tells him to do so. She then tells Nemo that he should call the police, because he has to talk to his brother about something important. She tells him not to order anything from the store, because there are other people waiting in line to buy food. Nemo asks if the man is his friend, and the young man says that he is. He then tells Mariane that there is something he needs to discuss with her, and they can talk outside. He says that it has been awhile since Mariane and he have been together, and he asks her if she has started to realize that she has been trapped in the world. She says that she must have, because she has not been able to get out of it.
