A young woman named Miss Mariane leaves a note for her fiance, asking him not to look for her. The young woman's fiance, an eighteen-year-old man named "wizard," finds the note in Mariane's room. He tells Mariane that he will not be returning to the prison because of his father's strict control over his life. Mariane tells him that her father arranged her marriage with someone she despises. She says that she was just a "weak little girl" and now he has arranged her to marry someone she does not approve of. She wonders if there is a temple in the forest behind the hill where the "god of love" will appear to answer her prayers about love. The temple seems creepy, and Mariane wonders why no one has visited the place for long. She prays to the god, but there is no sign of the god.
