The teacher scolds Miss Jessel for not taking her lessons more seriously. She blames her for the girl's inability to find a date at the amusement park. The teacher says that she's too similar to a cat to be able to coax a girl out of her misery, so she'll have to find someone else to help her out. The girl is upset and asks the teacher to give her more exercises. The tutor says that he'll give her extra exercises, and the girl says that's what she needs to do. She's so upset that she can't believe that she could ever be anything other than ugly. She tells the teacher that she will always be ugly, and that she should use this as motivation to get more beautiful.
