In this chapter, we are introduced to Little Em'ly, a young man who has fallen in love with one of the characters from the previous chapter. He is now engaged to be wooed by another young man, who is also a member of the same social circle as Little Em-ly. The young man tells Little Emly that he is going to a haunted house in order to meet his new love. He asks the young woman if she is afraid of the house, and the girl replies that she is not afraid of it at all.
