About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn that the narrator is having a hard time swallowing the lump in her throat. She tells us that she's always very "motherly," but that she can't seem to get over the fact that she doesn't notice that Shurike is moving in with them. She's also worried about how she feels when she and her dad got divorced, and she wonders if she'll be able to handle eating real food for the rest of her life. She also asks about the way she reacted to the news of her father's death, wondering if she should have come out and said, "thave feelings for you" instead of "standing in the middle" of an intersection kissing without warning. She wonders if it would have been better if she had said something like, "Hey, I'm going to go to Mcdondon to get my body back. I've lost a lot of weight this week, and I don't even know what to say to Yusuke. She asks if they can both work the same shift the next two weeks, so they can be together one day. She says she'd like to do that, but she can think of nothing else to say. Then she remembers that she hasn't seen Yusuke's "aggressive side" before, and wonders if he's changed at all. She remembers that he used to be like an older brother to her, but now he seems like the "old Yusuke" to her.
