The chapter opens with a flashback to the beginning of the school year, when the two of them were in the same class together. The narrator tells the story of how he kissed her and how she responded. He tells her that he was about to hate her when she kissed him, but that she responded by saying that she liked him too. She tells him that she was disappointed in him when they first met, but she denies that it was because he was an idiot
