About This Chapter
"A big ol' log" , the narrator tells us, is a good way to sum up the state of affairs in the household. He's not sure what that means, but he's pretty sure it's a good thing. The narrator also tells us that he used to be a zenza, so he knows a thing or two about the art of rakugo . He says that shisho always complimented him on how good his acting was, but that he didn't really think about it at all. He tells us he got down on his hands and knees and begged forgiveness for his bad behavior. He also says that he heard yakumo's voice in the background, and that since he'd gotten married, he would need his wife more than ever. He doesn't think that's the end of his relationship with the girl, though, and he says that yakumo did a good job raising her. He adds that he'll try to stop the girl from quitting, but not at the expense of her relationship with yakumo. He then tells the narrator that he was sorry to bother him on his day off, and apologizes for his rudeness. He asks the narrator if he changed his name, and the narrator says he can't recall all the family's faces, but if he were to regret it, he wouldn't change his name. He goes on to say that he and his wife recently got married, and they have a nine-month-old daughter. He apologizes again, and says that they're not near done yet.
