About This Chapter
In this short scene, Shu-Tsing makes his way to Raku-go's house, where he greets his father, who is waiting for him. He tells his father that he is ready to leave the house, but that he has to wait for his father's response to his request. He says that his father has ignored him, and that he wishes he had found something else to rely on. He then praises his father for raising his family by himself, and praises his wife, who he says is always tired and "listless" . He also praises his son's skill at rakugo, but says that he does not care if he is his son, as long as he can win his father over. He explains that he was defending his father against the man who tried to call himself "sukeroku" on the day that he wanted to do so, and it cost him a beloved son. He feels "so weak" that he cannot forgive himself for his deeds, and sighs that he will be a "great man" one day.
