When the play opens, the girls are all dressed up and ready to go to the theater. When they get to the stage, they find that the fox has been let in, and the girl is very excited. When she asks who the man is, the bookseller replies that he is her "rakugo," or lover. When the girl asks who he is, he replies that she is his "lantern," or wife. The girl asks him to tell her the name of the man she is in love with, and he does so.
