In this short scene, we learn that Hirohito's wife, Akatsuki, has died in an automobile accident while on a business trip. We learn that she left a large sum of money to her son, Koichi, to live off of until he becomes an adult. Koichi wants to live with his uncle, who already has three children at home, and his grandmother, who has also died. He wants to be a good son, he says, so that his grandmother's death will not be a cause for trouble for anyone.
