Even if Linghua doesn't find his master, he's still going to search for him. He's been looking for Linghua since the beginning of the story. When Linghua asks if she wants to go burn incense at the Baiyun temple with her, Linghua says yes. She can go back, but Linghua will go back and answer her question. He tells her that he already knew that she was looking for someone who would worship the Buddha with her. He says that he'll ask the gods for the location of his master and then go find him. Linghua is worried that he won't be able to find him, but he promises that he can do whatever he needs to do to earn the money to get to the promised land. He promises to rustle up some snacks for the two of them and then they'll go off to find their master. When they arrive at the temple, they're greeted by Linghua's mother, who tells them that her son was seriously ill the last time he was there. She thanks Linghua for blessing her troublesome son, and tells him to get married and settle down so that she can be at peace in her life. She tells Linghua to throw a wish in his mind, and he does so.
