In this chapter, we are introduced to the "Inkr", the main character of the novel. He is a young man who has just returned from a year-long trip to the Holy Land, where he met with the "Old Man" and the "Witch" . The two men discuss how to become stronger, and the old man tells the young man that he can help him get whatever he wants. The young man agrees to the conditions, and in return, the two of them will become stronger together. The old man says that he has already fallen behind, and that he must apologize to "wangyan" for his behavior at the holy land. In response to this, "lin langtian" says that "this rat is stubborn," and that "ignorant guys like him" will eventually die "in a dirty corner" that fits his "status." The young men agree to go with him, and "the monument is shining" , as they say.
