In this short scene, we learn that even though Luo has won first place at the Heaven's Ascending Sword Competition, he is still struggling to defeat the old foxes at the outer gate. We learn that the Elders of the Inner Gate are also present, and that they have come to watch the "fun" of the sword competition. The Elders are surprised to see that they are not there, and Luo tells them that he will acknowledge them as the head of the gate if they do not take away their power.
