When he gets back from his business trip, the narrator gets a call from his best friend, who breaks down and cries. He drags his luggage along to get her. She tells him that her husband, who bet on the world cup, lost all his money. He bets on the team that's going to win the tournament, and loses all of it. The narrator tells his husband that he's wasting money on him, and that he should be spending it on his wife. The next day, he tells the narrator that he won the bet, and the next morning, he starts talking about the tournament with his hands all over the place. The professor at the school that he went to, who also happened to be a fan of the tournament that night, tells him, "love is so extraordinary that he can bear with it" . Later, he and the narrator go to see a concert by Li Zongsheng. He asks the narrator which song of the song he likes the most, "since youth was always lasting".
