The chapter opens with a soliloquy by the narrator, in which he compares the summer after college entrance exams to the toughest summer of his life. He tells us that he's happy to be graduating from college and that he wants to take a photo with his friend . He asks if it's possible for a man to simply love a woman without getting hurt. The narrator says that he doesn't know, but he'd like to hold his friend's hand and not let him go. He wants to know if love is possible without hurting someone. He says that friends are always together and that those days are over. He also says that when he goes to college, he'll find a girlfriend. He's going to have to find a first love, he says, because there are only two people in the world who are worthy of his love: his friend and his girlfriend. She says that she's already found her first love and that there's nothing she can do about it. She tells him that he should join the "first love ending squad" , which is a group of people who've already found their first love.
